GUM (Genital Urinary Medicine) clinics, often referred to as "Special", "VD" or "Clap" clinics, specialise in the treatment of STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections). They are the best place to go if you suspect that you've contracted a STI.

You do not need to be referred to a GUM clinic by your Doctor or even use your real name when you make an appointment. You can also arrange an appointment through the Men4Men SHOP where you can confidentially discuss any concerns you have before going.

GUM clinics are usually able to offer you a wide range of FREE sexual health checks and treatments including:

  • Detection and treatment of STIs
  • HIV antibody testing
  • Hepatitis B vaccinations
  • Medical monitoring
  • Care for HIV positive people

Men4Men SHOP & GUM Clinic in Greenhouse Sauna

Men4Men SHOP is now working with Luton & Dunstable (L&D GUM) sexual health services at the popular gay men's sauna, Greenhouse. The aim of the service is to allow men to access all the screening expected from a GUM clinic. Men can choose to have a test from the throat, rectal or penis for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. We also offer blood testing for Syphilis, HIV, Hep B, Hep C and a full Hep B vaccination programme. The service runs on the third Thursday of the month from 5pm to 8pm, with a clinician, Dr Sheila Long and health advisor, Hayley Lynch, on hand to provide the tests/vaccinations whilst a Men4Men SHOP member of staff is available for men to talk to about safer sex, information on HIV, STI's, Men4Men SHOP services and encouraging men to test whilst they have services on hand.

Supported by The Greenhouse SaunasThe sauna is completely backing the venture with manager Darren saying - "It's important to me and the owners of the Greenhouse that the men who visit us feel that we have their good health as well as their enjoyment at heart, I want everyone to know that they can have fun and have a health sex life." One of the first men who used the Thursday clinic said - "I very much appreciate what the guys from Men4Men SHOP and the GUM Staff are doing for us. A big thank you to you all. You guys are doing a great service and wish you all the best. If any guys want some confidential advice or check up, then these guys are not to be missed."

To further support the GUM clinic there is free entry to those men who only wish to visit the clinic and not use other sauna services. The clinic is in a private room and men can choose how to receive their results to ensure confidentiality. No appointment is needed, just turn up at the clinic on third Thursday between 5pm & 8pm.

For more information about the clinic, advice or any support around testing contact Men4Men SHOP on (01582) 511034 or L&D GUM on (01582) 560383.
